A skyline stop

Keep one waterfront.

Use the Bund guide to choose an approach and a viewpoint, then leave when you have seen enough.

More of the day

Follow a river stretch.

Choose a section of Suzhou River. A short lower-river walk is a complete outing; the longer edition leaves room for parks, art and a meal.

A route is a starting point.

Save a start and a finish.

Use the Chinese names and individual map pins in each guide. Plan the return from where you actually stop. Illustrations show the character of a route; they are not navigation maps.

Keep the day flexible.

Time allowances are planning estimates, excluding hotel transfers. Museums, schools, galleries and performances can need separate checks. Shorten the walk for rain, heat or tired legs, and keep a seated break in mind.
